What We Do
- Science-based conservation strategies
- Empowering local communities as environmental stewards
- Restoring critical habitats and protecting endangered species
At NatureSomalia, our unwavering commitment is to the protection and preservation of Somalia's unparalleled natural heritage. We champion a holistic approach, integrating rigorous science-based conservation with proactive community engagement and sustainable development initiatives.
Our work is driven by the urgent need to safeguard endangered species, restore vital habitats, and empower local communities. By fostering a deep sense of stewardship, we ensure that Somalia's rich biodiversity thrives for generations to come.
Founded by a group of environmental conservation experts, Nature Somalia operates at the nexus of biodiversity conservation, community resilience, and sustainable development — filling a critical gap in national conservation leadership.
Areas of Focus

Wildlife & Habitat Restoration
Mapping lost and threatened species, habitat restoration, community ranger programs, and zero-poaching campaigns.

Bird Conservation & Flyway Monitoring
Identifying and protecting IBAs, tracking migratory birds, training local bird monitors in partnership with schools and elders.

Marine & Coastal Ecosystem Protection
Establishment of mangrove reserve forests, coastal dune rehabilitation, community-managed fishing zones, and coral preservation along Somalia's coastline.

Wetland & River Basin Restoration
Reviving the Shabelle and Jubba ecosystems through riverbank planting, floodplain protection, and wetland bird and fish sanctuaries.
Our Work

Reforestation & Land Restoration
We protect and restore bird habitats by planting native trees, restore degraded lands, and combat desertification in regions like Puntland, Jubaland, and South Central Somalia. We support water conservation through rainwater harvesting systems, traditional well restoration, and smart water use practices.

Environmental Education
We run eco-education programs in schools and communities to foster a new generation of environmentally aware leaders — including tree-planting drives, eco-clubs, and workshops on climate science, biodiversity protection, and sustainable living tailored to local contexts.

Sustainable Livelihoods
From climate-smart agriculture training to supporting women-led eco-enterprises, we help communities earn income while protecting nature. We promote green job creation, value-added natural products, and market linkages that allow locals to benefit economically from conservation-friendly activities.
Our Impact
Since its establishment, Nature Somalia has implemented a range of impactful conservation initiatives that have transformed conservation across the Horn of Africa.
